General Eligibility Requirements
- Age: Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- Passport Validity: Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in Nepal.
- Financial Means: You must be able to show proof of funds to cover living costs (for example, a recent bank statement or a sponsorship letter).
- Health and Travel Insurance: Comprehensive travel/medical insurance covering the full duration of your stay in Nepal is strongly recommended and may be requested by partners or universities.
Visa Application Process
- On Arrival Visa:
- Arrival Card: Complete the Arrival Card after landing in Nepal.
- Tourist Visa Form: Fill out the Tourist Visa form online via the official portal or at the visa kiosk/counter in the arrivals hall.
- Payment: Pay the visa fee for a 15/30/90-day stay at the designated bank counter and keep the receipt.
- Immigration Desk: Present your passport, completed forms, photo (if requested), and payment receipt at the Immigration Desk to have the visa placed in your passport.
- Visa from Diplomatic Missions:
- Apply for a tourist visa in advance at a Nepali embassy or consulate before travelling to Nepal.
- Enter Nepal within six months from the visa issue date.
Visa Costs and Duration
- Duration: A standard tourist visa is issued for up to 90 days, and can usually be extended inside Nepal in 15-day blocks up to a maximum of 150 days in a visa year, by applying at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu or Pokhara.
- Fees: Visa and extension fees vary by nationality and length of stay; applicants must check the latest rates with the Government of Nepal / Department of Immigration or the nearest embassy / consulate before applying.
Visa Restrictions
- Activities: The tourist visa allows only voluntary or unpaid activities. Any form of paid employment is not permitted. To work in Nepal, your status must be changed to the appropriate work visa through the Department of Immigration.
- On Arrival Restrictions: Nationals of certain countries must obtain a visa in advance from a Nepali embassy or consulate and are not eligible for a visa on arrival (for example, some applicants from countries such as Nigeria, Somalia, or Iraq).
