Internship in South Korea

Launch your career in one of Asia’s most innovative economies with an internship in South Korea, where cutting-edge industry meets rich history and everyday culture.

Introduction

South Korea Internship Locations

Seoul Overview

Seoul, officially the “Seoul Special City,” is the capital of South Korea and its largest metropolitan area. The city sits along the Han River and, together with nearby Incheon and Gyeonggi Province, forms the heart of the Seoul Capital Area.

With a population of nearly ten million people, Seoul is located in the northwest of the country, is home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and has become known for its mix of modern architecture, high-rise skylines, and historic neighbourhoods. It is widely regarded as a leading global city.

Internship Opportunities in Seoul

Seoul ranks among the world’s largest metropolitan economies and serves as South Korea’s primary business and financial centre.

The city hosts the Korea Exchange and the headquarters of numerous international banks and financial institutions, many of them clustered in Yeouido, often called “South Korea’s Wall Street.”

Seoul’s information technology sector has grown rapidly for years, earning the city a reputation as one of the world’s most connected urban hubs, with advanced digital infrastructure and many tech companies where IT-focused interns can gain experience.

In manufacturing, Seoul is home to major electronics brands (such as Samsung and LG), automotive and component manufacturers, as well as beverage and food companies including Jinro, Hite, Lotte, and Nongshim Group. This concentration of industries means there is no shortage of potential internship placements across tech, finance, marketing, engineering, and more.

Seoul Attractions

As a major tourist destination, Seoul offers a long list of things to see and do. Highlights include the National Museum of Korea, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gyeongbokgung Palace, Dongdaemun Design Plaza, the War Memorial of Korea, Namsan Park and N Seoul Tower, plus many other cultural sites, shopping districts, and parks to explore during your internship.

Incheon Overview

Incheon is a major coastal city in the northwest of South Korea, officially known as the “Incheon Metropolitan City.” It borders Seoul and Gyeonggi Province to the east and is home to around three million residents.

Located near the mouth of the Han River, Incheon serves as a key seaport for the capital thanks to its coastal position and proximity to Seoul. It is also the site of South Korea’s main international airport, making it a primary gateway to the country.

Internship Opportunities in Incheon

Incheon’s logistics sector has grown rapidly in recent years.

Incheon Port, the second-largest port in South Korea, is one of the nation’s key connections to global trade and continues to expand. Incheon International Airport, frequently ranked among the busiest cargo airports in the world, further reinforces the city’s role as a logistics hub.

For students and young professionals interested in supply chain, logistics, and operations, Incheon offers strong potential for internships. The city hosts several industrial complexes developed during South Korea’s industrialisation, with activity spanning manufacturing and advanced production.

Notable companies in and around Incheon include manufacturers such as Roush Korea (automotive), IL KWANG Metal Forming Co., Ltd (machining), and Korea Yokogawa Electronics Manufacturing Co., Ltd, among others, offering exposure to both Korean and international business practices.

Incheon Attractions

Incheon also has plenty to explore outside of work, particularly in its northern areas like Ganghwa Island, which are known for their cultural and historical significance.

Attractions such as the Incheon City Museum, Jajangmyeon Museum, Incheon Chinatown, Hyundai Motor Studio, and the Korean Traditional Culture Experience Center provide insight into both local history and modern Korean life, making Incheon an engaging base for an internship.

Busan Overview

Busan, officially the “Busan Metropolitan City,” is located on the southeastern tip of the Korean peninsula and is South Korea’s second-largest city after Seoul, with a population of around 3.5 million.

Known for its mountains, beaches, and temples, Busan is a major centre of commerce, culture, and education in the southeast, and a popular host city for international sports events and festivals. It is also home to South Korea’s busiest port, one of the largest container ports in the world.

Internship Opportunities in Busan

Manufacturing accounts for a significant share of Busan’s economy, and the city government has also prioritised sectors such as IT, finance and futures, tourism and conventions, textiles and fashion, and other specialised industries.

This mix means students and young professionals can find internship opportunities across a wide range of fields. Examples of companies based in or around Busan include Daeyoung Innotech (automotive components and moulds), Segwang Network Co., Ltd (IT consulting and ERP development), Daewoo Pharmaceuticals, and Mesco Ltd. (satellite communications equipment).

Busan’s status as a major maritime logistics hub for Northeast Asia, thanks to its world-class ports, also supports a strong supply chain and logistics sector. Notable employers here include firms such as United Shipping Co. Ltd., Woosung Shipping, and DHL Global Forwarding, among others.

Busan Attractions

During time off, interns can explore Busan’s many attractions. Highlights include Jagalchi Market, Korea’s largest seafood market, and Haeundae Beach with its nearby Sea Life Aquarium.

Other popular spots are Gwangalli Beach and its restaurants and cafes, Yongdusan Park with Busan Tower and Busan Aquarium (one of the largest in Korea), the Gamcheon Culture Village, and numerous galleries and cultural spaces throughout the city.
