Visa information
General Eligibility Requirements
- Visa is issued for study or internship participation with an approved Vietnamese host.
- Maximum initial visa duration is up to 12 months.
Visa Application Process
- Apply for the appropriate visa at a Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate or through an approved online visa agent before travel.
- Typical dossier includes: notarized copy of the host organization’s establishment licence, NA2 form, passport scan, recommendation letter, and an official invitation letter from the Vietnamese host.
Visa Costs and Duration
- DH visa: valid for up to 12 months, with the option to apply for a Temporary Residence Card (TRC) that can extend lawful stay for up to 5 years, depending on category.
- Total costs include government stamping fees and any service or processing charges, which vary by nationality and consulate.
Specific Requirements for Applicants
- Passport validity must be at least 13 months at the time of application so a 12-month visa/TRC can be issued.
- Applicants must hold a visa that matches the intended purpose (DH – education/internship), supported by documentation from the sponsoring university, company, or organization.
Visa Restrictions
- For internships of under 12 months, a regular visa normally suffices. Longer study or internship periods are better supported by a DH visa plus TRC.
- A DH Temporary Residence Card is recommended for multi-year stays, as it reduces the need for repeated visa extensions and simplifies re-entry to Vietnam.
DH Temporary Residence Card Application
- Core documents typically include: host organization’s certificate of establishment, NA16 form, original passport, and recent photos, plus proof of current visa and temporary residence registration.
- Applications are lodged with the Vietnam Immigration Department or the local Immigration/Police Department in the province or city where the intern is staying.
